Don't Let These 5 Mistakes Keep You From Losing Weight

By helping people lose weight that I've begun to see the pattern of someone who is not going to be successful.

I love to help people but I find myself getting too emotionally invested in their progress and success as if it were my own. I've noticed a lot of people make many of the same mistakes and ultimately make them fail at their weight loss journey.

Here are a few things that people do that are self -sabotaging their success (some of which I am guilty of myself):

1. You put too much focus on weight.

You weigh yourself every single day and base how you feel about yourself on the number that pops up. You are so much more than a number. There are a ton of other non scale based victories or NSV for short. For me non scale victories are being able to spend time out with family without being exhausted after an hour. Or when the scale isn't budging but I notice that my pants start getting looser. NSVs are so much more rewarding than focusing on the numbers. Make sure to keep that in mind if you ever start weight training so you're not completely shocked to see the scale plateauing or even rising a little even when you're slimming down.

2. You decide to go all in .

This sounds great in theory but often leads to burn out. If you're eating less than 1200 cal per day and trying to exercise 5+ days a week you're going to get exhausted you're going to feel like you're not able to keep this up and instead of scaling back you may just quit. Try slowly reducing your amount of calories a little bit more each day until you get to a calorie deficit your body can tolerate and still thrive on. We don't starve ourselves here!

3. You are being too radical with your diet.

Similar to the point above, if your body is used to consuming a lot of fat a lot of meat do not cut these out completely. Don't try to be a vegetarian or vegan all in one go. Ease yourself into any major dietary change that you make.

4. You invest your life savings into programs shakes and patches.

These programs sell products. They do not care about your success. You can lose the same amount of weight on these products as you can off with the right education and motivation. I get approached by representatives from these companies multiple times a day asking if I want to try their products or become a coach (product pusher). Some products are not all bad but they are no magic solution.

I have always and will continue to tell others that you can lose weight without spending any extra money.

5. You see any mistake as a complete f*ckup

You are your biggest critic. You may beat yourself up over and over. If you do this you will likely end up giving up because you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. Instead of realizing that mistakes are OK and that you can redeem yourself. Every day, every meal, every snack is your next opportunity to make a healthier choice to move you in the direction of your goals.

Noom taught me some these things, and some I knew myself. If you'd like to try Noom with a 14 day free trial +20 % off I will be making a blog post about them in the near future so stay tuned.
